About the Bonne Bay Historical Archive
In a world where knowledge of the past is a cornerstone of healthy community, we aim to promote an understanding of the history of Bonne Bay which has, for many years, played a key role in the development of Western Newfoundland, and which continues to attract visitors from all over the world. Spearheaded by enthusiastic volunteers, we are passionate about our history, protecting and sharing it.
The Archive is a place to learn, discuss and engage, to enhance the understanding of our region’s past and its connection to the present, and to act as an anchor for the future.

It is a physical & digital collection of materials and historical resources (documents, maps, family memoirs, church records, photographs, etc.), but not the artifacts, crafts and other kinds of materials normally found in museums. Accessible to researchers, historians, local communities, and the general public, it is a valuable resource for those interested in local history, those researching family histories, students, visitors and others curious about the development of the area.

As far as possible, materials will be held in digital format, so that research may also be done at a distance via the internet. We envision future collaborations with neighbouring communities of Rocky Harbour, and Norris Point, and the growth of a community-based archive for the whole Bonne Bay area.

These materials are an important part of our heritage and should be accessible to everyone.
